Three Ways You’re Damaging Your Windshield Without Knowing It

The act of driving is among the most dangerous things we do each day. Even if your driving is impeccable, you will still face new challenges every time you take the wheel. It’s easy to overlook the little things when we are driving and have so many other worries to consider. We’re going to tell you about some of the small things that can wear out your windshield.

    1.) Windshield Wipers

The blades that cover your windshield will wear out over time, exposing hard plastic which can damage your windshield. The hard plastic on your wiper blades can leave marks and damage your windshield. Wiper blades should be changed every six months. They are an item of maintenance that is worth the money.

    2.) Dirt

Dirt can’t be avoided when driving. Dirt and grime on the road can have a greater impact if they are too thick. This is because dirt and dust cause the surface to be uneven. When a rock strikes a clear windshield the force is evenly distributed across the glass. The uneven surface of a dirty windshield increases the risk of cracking.

    3.) Cold Weather

Many of us do not have the luxury to store our cars in a garage over the winter. If you leave your car in the cold for too long, its heat can be lost. Glass contracts, like most other things, when exposed to colder air. If your windshield is cracked or chipped, exposing it to air below 30 degrees will increase the likelihood of it cracking.

Keep an eye on your windshield for small problems that can add up over time. You may only need a simple windshield fix to prevent the damage from spreading during cold weather. Do what you can so that your windshield is as healthy as possible.
